Google Business Profile Posts: Are They Worth It?

MNR Developers · May 2026 · Westchester, NY

Google Business Profile posts let you add updates, photos, and announcements directly to your business listing. When someone searches for your business or finds you on Google Maps, these posts can show up right alongside your hours and reviews.

The question is whether posting regularly actually moves the needle for your business. After managing dozens of profiles for Westchester businesses, here's what we've learned.

What Google Business Profile Posts Actually Do

Think of these posts like mini social media updates for your Google listing. You can share new products, upcoming events, special offers, or just general business updates. They show up in your Knowledge Panel and can include photos, buttons for calls-to-action, and links to your website.

Google says these posts help your listing appear more active and relevant. They're supposed to help with local search rankings and give potential customers more reasons to choose your business over competitors.

The Reality Check

Here's what actually happens with most Google posts: not much.

Your posts expire after seven days unless they're events or offers with specific dates. Most people searching for local businesses scroll right past the posts section. They want your phone number, address, and hours. Maybe they'll look at photos and reviews.

We tracked post engagement for 20 Westchester businesses over six months. The average post got viewed by fewer than 50 people. Clicks were even lower, usually under 10 per post.

That doesn't mean they're useless, but it puts expectations in perspective.

When Google Posts Actually Help

Some situations make Google posts worth your time:

A local restaurant saw decent results posting daily specials because people actually search for that information. A landscaping company gets good engagement posting before-and-after project photos. But a law office posting generic "we're here to help" updates? Complete waste of time.

The Hidden Benefits

The real value might not be in direct engagement. Google uses dozens of signals to determine local search rankings, and profile activity appears to be one of them.

We've noticed businesses that post regularly tend to maintain better visibility in local search results. It's not a dramatic difference, but it's measurable. The posts themselves might not get clicks, but they signal to Google that your business is active and engaged.

Fresh photos from posts also get pulled into your main photo feed, which people definitely look at.

How to Post Without Wasting Time

If you decide Google posts are worth trying, keep it simple:

Post once or twice per week maximum. More often just dilutes your message and wastes your time.

Focus on visual content. Photos of your actual work, your team, or your location perform better than text-heavy announcements.

Use the event and offer post types when appropriate. These stay active longer and get special formatting that stands out more.

Don't overthink the copy. A sentence or two is plenty. Save the detailed explanations for your website.

The Bottom Line

Google Business Profile posts are a minor local SEO factor at best. They won't transform your online presence or dramatically increase foot traffic.

But if you have good visual content and can post consistently without it becoming a burden, they're probably worth doing. The time investment is small, and every little bit helps in competitive local markets like Westchester.

Just don't expect miracles. Your time is better spent getting more genuine reviews, keeping your business information accurate, and making sure your website actually loads properly on mobile devices.

If you're already struggling to keep up with basic marketing tasks, skip Google posts for now. Focus on the fundamentals first. You can always add posting to your routine later when you have more bandwidth.
