5 Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign

MNR Developers · 2026 · Westchester, NY

Your website might have been great when it was built. But the web moves fast, and a site that looked modern 3 years ago can look outdated today. Here are five signs it's time to update.

1. It's Not Mobile-Friendly

Pull up your website on your phone right now. Is the text tiny? Do you have to pinch and zoom? Are buttons hard to tap? If so, you're losing customers. Over 60% of web traffic is mobile, and Google actively penalizes sites that don't work well on phones. If your site isn't mobile-friendly, this alone is reason enough to redesign.

2. It Loads Slowly

If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, half your visitors leave before they even see it. You can test your speed at PageSpeed Insights (just Google it). Common culprits are oversized images, bloated code from website builders, and cheap hosting. A modern, well-built site should load in under 2 seconds.

3. You Can't Update It Yourself

If changing your hours, updating your menu, or adding a photo requires calling your developer and waiting days, something's wrong. A modern website should have a simple way for you to make basic content changes — whether that's a CMS, a simple admin panel, or at minimum a developer who responds within 24 hours.

4. You're Not Getting Leads From It

Your website's job is to turn visitors into customers. If people visit but nobody calls, fills out your form, or books an appointment, the site isn't doing its job. Common problems: no clear call-to-action, contact form buried on a separate page, no phone number visible on mobile, or the site just doesn't build enough trust to make someone reach out.

5. It Looks Dated

Web design trends change. If your site has any of these, it's showing its age: tiny text on a white background, a stock photo carousel at the top, a design that looks like it was built in 2015, or worst of all — a "last updated" date from years ago. People judge your business by your website. If the site looks neglected, they assume the business is too.

What a Redesign Looks Like

A good redesign doesn't mean starting from scratch. Often it means taking your existing content and putting it in a modern, fast, mobile-friendly design with clear calls-to-action and proper SEO. For most small businesses, a redesign takes 1-2 weeks and the difference is night and day.

If any of these signs sound familiar, it might be time to invest in a refresh. Your website is working 24/7 — make sure it's working for you, not against you.
